  • I'm interested in an animal, will you hold it for me?

We do not hold animals for adoption as it is our goal to get them into adoptive homes as quickly as possible so we can help more pets in need. While we do not hold animals, we also do not honor a "first come, first serve" system and will accept multiple applications on all animals in order to find the best possible fit for their needs.

  • Do you offer same day adoptions?

No, unfortunately we do not offer same day adoptions. It typically takes anywhere between 1 -7 days to process an application. This depends on how quickly we are able to reach landlords, references, and your veterinarian. To help speed up the process, we encourage you to notify your landlord, and references that they will be receiving a call from HAHS. Also be sure to give your veterinarian a call and give verbal consent for HAHS to obtain medical records on your pets.

  • Do you offer veterinary services to the public?

We offer microchipping, testing for FelV/FIV, and low cost spay/neuter services to the public.

**We do not offer wellness exams, or vaccinations to the public.**

  • Do you offer end of life services?

We do not offer euthanasia services to the public, but we do offer both Cremation and Burial services for your beloved pet.

  • Do you offer boarding services for pets?

No, unfortunately we are not able to provide boarding services to the public.

There are a couple boarding facilities in and around Hornell such as Paws Up (Hornell NY), Grandview Canine Care (Arkport, NY). We suggest reaching out to them to check their availability for openings. We also suggest checking out Rover.com, and Care.com for additional options such as personal pet sitters.

  • I need to surrender my pet. Can you take them?

While we encourage owners to explore all other options before considering surrendering to a shelter, we understand that surrendering may be the best option available.

If you are in need of surrendering your pet, please give us a call to discuss your pet and the possibility of surrendering. We accept owner relenquished pets as space and resourses allow, and if the animal is deemed adoptable by HAHS evaluation.

Please note: There is no guarentee we will be able to accept your pet for surrender, and intake will depend on available space, recourses, and an evaluation. Dogs with a history of agression or feral/agressive cats will not be accepted for surrender.
